An Overview And History Of Air Force Planes

The history and evolution of aviation is directly related to the development of Air Force planes. Since the first manned flight more than a century again, and the introduction of fighter planes during the First World War, aviation has advanced to levels that would have once seen unimaginable. The following examples are a selection of the most important craft that have been used by the Air Force.

The first aircraft ever to have been used by the military was the Morane-Saulnier L. The original plane was a sports aircraft, it was adapted with a machine gun mounted at the front, which fired dangerously through the propellers. To prevent accidents, the propellers were installed with armoured plating.

When researching the history of the Air Force, there is one name that deserves to be mentioned above all others. The Spitfire helped to turn around the course of the Second World War in the Allies favor. With a powerful engine and unique wing design, the Spitfire was extremely manoeuvrable, and fast. The Spitfire ended its service in the 1950s.

The F18 Hornet is still an integral aircraft for the military. It is a multi-role plane that can be based on land, or on an aircraft carrier, and used for either ground attacks or air combat. It was introduced in 1978 and immediately changed the playing field. It is due to the adaptability of the F18 Hornet that it is still a popular choice today. The most recent incarnations have evolved to ensure compatibility with the latest technology and missile systems.

If there is one plane that has changed the way we think about modern aviation, it is the B2 spirit, otherwise known as the Stealth Bomber. This aircraft has revolutionized the capability of conducting strategic campaigns far from the homeland. It integrates a special low radar signature which has allowed the Stealth Bomber to fly on sorties undetected in conflict areas. Its large size provides capability to carry the latest cruise missiles and war heads. The B2 spirit is a real game changer.

When discussing the history of aviation, the MQ-9 Reaper deserves an honorary mention. This is an unmanned aerial vehicle based on the design of the original Predator drone. The MQ-9 Reaper has completely changed the way the Air Force operates in war zones and areas of hostility. As the craft can be controlled remotely from thousands of miles away from the area of operation, the crew are never put in harms way.

The MQ-9 has allowed for operations to be carried out that are more effective and accurate. With high definition onboard cameras, and the capability of carrying various weapons, it is no surprise that the Reaper is often described as one of the most important resources available in the Air Force’s arsenal.

The US Air Force will continue to go from strength to strength. With new developments coming about on a constant basis, it is predicted that in the future, US planes will continue to play an essential role in ensuring peace and stability around the globe.
