Air Force Requirements

Do You Have What It Takes?

While there might be a lot to consider when it comes to choosing a position among the ever growing military branches in the United States, you can do very little of this deliberation if you do not make it into the basic training. You really have to take a few moments to determine the basic Air Force requirements so that you can have a clear idea on what it will take to join this prestigious branch.

There are a lot of different requirements that you are going to have to adhere to in order to get into the military. If you are not entirely sure what all of these are, the most challenging of these will be laid out through the upcoming paragraphs. This way you can both mentally and physically prepare for the tests that you will have to take to be admitted into the basic training portion of your new career path.

One of the very first things that you are going to want to do before you start to read into what is required of you, will be to talk to a recruiter about the decision that you are considering. For one, you are going to be able to find out a little bit about the life that you are signing up for and what the military is going to require of you throughout the next four years at least.

This is also going to give you an opportunity to get initially assessed by someone who can tell you what the Air Force is looking for. You will get assessed by your weight and appearance. Body modifications such as piercings and this type of modification are not accepted by the military and need to be removed and healed over before they proceed further. Likewise, based on your height, you are going to need to be within a certain weight class.

After you have been initially cleared, you are going to take the ASVAB test. This is an assessment test that will tell the higher ups in the Air Force where you are going to best fit in. This will help to determine your job, and so you need to put in a little bit of research into what job you might want and what scores will open that job up to you. Taking practice tests are certainly advisable, and can help you do even better on the exam. Be aware that it is possible to fail the ASVAB test, and so you should really take some time out of your life to ensure that you are studying for it.

The physical fitness test is the next step in this process that can grant you entrance or keep you out of the military. You need to not only clear a medical examination ensuring that you are not physically hindered in any way, but then to pass a physical fitness test consisting of a timed run, push ups, sit ups, and any amount of pull ups.

The amount of these and the time you are allotted varies between the genders, so for specifics on women you can do a little bit of searching on the internet or speak with your recruiter. For men, there are three classes of performance, but the basic requirements to get you in will be detailed here. You need to finish a mile and a half trek in approx. 12 minutes. You need to be able to do 45 push ups and 50 sit ups. Most of these are timed by the minute.

While there might be other things to consider, these are some of the Air Force requirements. You need to talk with a recruiter and see what you can do to speed the process along.
